BSF men killed in Srinagar attack

SRINAGAR, May 20: Two BSF men were killed in a militant attack at Pandach area near Soura here today.
Reports said that the BSF men, part of a patrolling team on duty on a road, had come to a provisional store to buy some articles when they were attacked from a close range. Their weapons were also reportedly snatched.
The security men were critically injured in the attack and removed to hospital. A report said both of them succumbed to their injuries.
Security forces reached the affected area and a cordon and search operation was launched.
“Two-three bike borne militants attacked a party of 37 batallion of the paramilitary forces near Pandach area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Wednesday afternoon. They also snatched two weapons from the BSF,” Director General of Police Dilbag Singh said.
“Two BSF jawans on Naka Duty at the outskirts of Srinagar city at Pandach Chowk were fired upon by 2/3 bike borne militants/youth,” he said, adding, “The jawans succumbed to their injuries later.”
The attack came a day after security forces killed Hizbul Mujahideen divisional commander Junaid Sehrai and another militant in an encounter at Nawakadal here yesterday. A dozen residential houses were damaged during the exchange of fire.
Tight security arrangements were today made in several parts of old city of Srinagar as a precautionary measure. The movement of people and vehicles was lesser in the affected area and its adjoining areas today compared to other days.
Mobile internet continued snapped for the second consecutive day today in Srinagar district. The mobile and voice calls on mobile phones was suspended yesterday in Srinagar as the encounter raged. Later BSNL restored voice calling in some areas. The other service providers restored the voice calling last night.
