Cyclonic storm during pandemic

Kashmir Times. Dated: 5/23/2020 1:18:06 AM

Dear Editor,
An extremely severe cyclone packing winds of up to 190 kmph roared into West Bengal on May 20, dumping heavy rain and leaving a trail of destruction that left at least two people dead. After making landfall at 2.30 p.m. between Digha in West Bengal and and Hatiya island in Bangladesh, cyclone Amphan cut a swathe through the coastal areas, flattening fragile dwellings, uprooting trees and electric poles. At least 6.58 lakh people were evacuated in West Bengal and Odisha. The country has already been hit hard by COVID-19 which has rattled the country's economy and people were in horrifying circumstances, now they have been rattled by cyclonic storm which has left hundreds of them without homes and shelters. In such critical condition, both Centre and state governments should help people and ensure them to get their demands and needs.
