NEW DELHI: The Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), the trade union front of the RSS, on Thursday gave a call for a nationwide agitation on June 10 under the banner of "save public sector, save India" to protest against the aggressive Modi government's policy of intensified privatisation.
Its 2-day national coordination committee of its public sector unions condemned the government for pursuing the process of privatisation in different names in different sectors like commercialisation of coal sector, corporatisation of defence ordnance factories board and railways, strategic sale of PSUs, merger and privatisation of banks and insurance and increasing the FDI cap.
BMS general secretary Virjesh Upadhyay accused the government of pushing and imposing its unjust decisions on the workers. Failing to sell the loss-making PSUs since no sensible purchase came forward to take over, he said the government is now luring the private buyers with the sale of highly profitable sectors like Maharatnas/Navaratnas.
Since the government's advisors have dearth of ideas to generate revenue, they are asking the government to "corpratise and privatise," he said, urging the government to consult the stakeholders to find out other means to address fiscal deficit and revenue generation.
