Beware of 24 fake varsities

NEW DELHI, Sep 19: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released a list of 24 so-called universities offering degrees without recognition by it and three of these fake universities were identified in the last three years, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' disclosed in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Saturday.
He informed Upendra Singh Rawat of BJP from Uttar Pradesh that the UGC has publicised these fake universities on its website and it has written to the concerned state governments from time to time to take action against them. Those declared fake in the recent past include the Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIPM) and the National Institute of Management Solutions, both operating from Delhi.
The UGC website shows seven of these fake universities operating from Delhi, eight from Uttar Pradesh, two each from West Bengal and Odisha and one each from Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry and Maharashtra. The university declared as fake in Maharashtra is Raja Arabic University, Nagpur.
