Kisan rail transport of fruits, veggies at 50% freight

NEW DELHI, Oct 15: In a massive incentive to the farmers, the Kisan Rail transport of the notified 33 fruits and vegetables will be at half the freight rate, with the Ministry of Food Processing Industry subsidising other half to the Railways, a scheme put into operation from October 14.
The immediate beneficiaries are the farmers growing onions, bananas and apples. Other items that can be transported by the Kisan Rail put into service since August 7 for the fastest transport to plug rotting are:
Fruits - Mango, Guava, Kiwi, Litchi, Papaya, Mousambi, Orange, Kinnow, Lime, Lemon, Pineapple, Pomegranate, Jackfruit, Almond, Aonla, Passion fruit and Pear;
Vegetables - Tomatoes, potatoes, French beans, Bitter Gourd, Brinjal, Capsicum, Carrot, Cauliflower, Chillies (Green), Okra, Cucumber, Peas, and Garlic.
The first Kisan Rail, ex Devlali (Nashik, Maharashtra) to Danapur (Patna, Bihar), was inaugurated on 07.08.2020 – as a weekly train. Subsequently on popular demand, the train has been extended to Muzaffarpur (Bihar), and has also been made bi-weekly. In addition, link coaches – from Sangla and Pune – have also been introduced which joins this Kisan Rail at Manmad.
Three other Kisan trains put into service are: From Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh) to Adarsh Nagar Delhi, a weekly train and a weekly train from Bengaluru (Karnataka) to Hazrat Nizamuddin (Delhi), both launched on September 9, and the latest being the train launched on October 14
from Nagpur & Warud Orange City (Maharashtra) to Adarsh Nagar, Delhi.
These new trains ensure agro products reach from one corner to another corner of the country in a quick time, benefitting both the farmers and the consumers. The Kisan Rail catering to the requirements of small farmers and small traders is proving to be a game changer and life changer.
