Death of two nomadic kids wakes up NGOs

Syed-us-Saadat reaches out to 24 nomadic families in a day

ANANTNAG, Jan 20: A couple of days after the two nomadic kids died of severe cold in Kulgam district, some NGOs have begun reaching out to such families.
Syed-us-Saadat foundation which is always on the forefront in times of natural clamities besides on Tuesday decided requested the people to help it in identifying the nomadic families in their respective areas.
The foundation since Monday identified 24 such families in different villages of Anantnag and distributed blankets, warm clothes, bedding and eatables among them.
The families were identified by the volunteers of the foundation in Roohu, Hanji Dantar, Dantar, Nowgam and Ashajipora.
An activist, Sheikh Adil, who volunteers himself for the activities of the foundation said that people should help the foundation in identifiying such families living in their respective areas in tents in these cold weather conditions.
"Death of two nomadic kids is distressing. We should ensure that no such incident happens again. It is our moral and religious duty to protect the poor and homeless in these freezing temperatures," Sheikh Adil said.
The foundation after the blockade of Srinagar-Jammu national highway due to recent heavy snowfall was the first to reach out to the stranded drivers who were running short of money.
The foundation, according to figures available, distributed food kits among at least 200 drivers and conductors stranded between Anantnag to Qazigund.
In 2014 floods foundation did the commendable job not only by rescuing people but also by providing essentials to the thousands of affected people.
Besides being on the forefront during calamities, the foundation also helps many critically ill patients on monthly basis. The foundation came into being in Malagnag locality of Anantnag town in early 80s and with the passage of time earned a name and fame among the people for its commendable job. People have been generously donating for the foundation whenever it appeals for the same.
