JAMMU, Feb 20: Jammu’s young cricketer Yudhvir Singh Charak has been picked up by the Mumbai Indians (MI) for the biggest domestic T20 league of the world Indian Premier League.
According to news reports, in Thursday’s IPL auction, Jammu-born Yudhvir Singh Charak, who plays for Budding Stars, in the local leagues was signed by Mumbai Indians.
Hailing from Rajouri, and presently living in Jammu where his father Dharam Singh Charak is employed in the revenue department, fast bowler Yudhvir came to Hyderabad to pursue his career in cricket. He had represented Jammu & Kashmir in the Under-19 tournament where he had a five-wicket haul against Mumbai. “I came to Hyderabad in 2018 because the cricket infrastructure is better than Jammu where I could get opportunities in the local leagues in the city,’’ said the 23-year-old from Jammu.
Impressed with his fast bowling, Yudhvir played for Hyderabad in the under-23 tournament and picked five wickets against Madhya Pradesh. The speedster got his Ranji Trophy breakthrough last year. He hits the deck hard and has good yorkers. In the last two years he has been bowling in Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians nets.
Pace bowling coach Zaheer Khan spotted the talent in Yudhvir before he picked him in Thursday’s auction. “I was so happy to bowl to the likes of Rohit Sharma and others. JaspritBumrah gave me a few tips last year,’’ said Yudhvir, who is in Jammu now and visited the Vaishno Devi Temple for thanks-giving prayer.
Yudhvir was in the T20 Hyderabad team but was dropped for the Vijay Hazare one-day tournament.
According to KNO, Yudhvir said that he wasn’t expecting that he will be picked up by any team, however, he feels happy after getting selected in IPL.
“I was interested in Cricket since my childhood but support of family wasn’t too good. I continued to play cricket whenever I got time,” he said, adding that “In year 2016, my friend Deepak told me that you are talented and you should go for trials for under 19 selection and fortunately I got selected.”
He said that since then he has played at various levels including Mushtaq Ali, Ranji trophy and others from Hyderabad side.
“I and my family besides coaches and relatives are very happy to see me in IPL and there is festive environment at my home,” he said while thanking his family, relatives and coaches including Vivek Singh, Adnan Bofana from Hyderabad besides Ambati Raydu.
Yudhvir further said: “If I get an opportunity in playing 11, I will try to prove my mettle. The aim of my life is to get space in national side and make whole nation proud with my performance.”
He said that his message to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir will be whatever sport they are choosing, choose it fully and dedicate themselves completely to get the dreams fulfilled.
Pertinently, Yudvir is the sixth player from Jammu and Kashmir sold by an IPL franchise so far.
Before him Abdul Samad, Parvaiz Rasool, Rasikh Salam, Mohammad Mudhasir and Manzoor Pandav were picked up by teams, however Mohammed Mudhasir and Manzoor Pandav didn’t get any match to play.
