Tail end of Covid-19's 3rd wave

NEW DELHI, Mar 03: India on Thursday added 6,561 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours ending at 8 AM, with 142 fatalities in a single day.
Continuous drop of the fresh cases below the 15,000 mark prompted Dr Randeep Guleria, the Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, to state that the country is currently witnessing the “tail” of the third wave and Covid-19 will gradually become endemic.
The sudden increase in the number of cases of a disease above the normal expectation is treated as endemic while an epidemic of an infectious disease spreading over several countries is called a pandemic. The deciding factor for a disease to be called a pandemic is not its severity but the extent to which it has spread.
Delhi recorded 325 new infections and one death in 24 hours, with 0.81% daily positivity rate while Kerala topped with 52 deaths in a day, followed by Karnataka 12. As many as 19 of the total 36 states and union territories reported not a single death, while it were in the single digit in case of other states.
The country's death toll went up to 5,14,388 while the active caseload stood at 77,152, which is 0.18% of the total cases and the recoveries at 98.62% showed 42.35 million recovered. The daily positivity rate stands at 0.74% and the weekly rate at 0.99%.
The nationwide vaccination went up to 178.02 crore, with 21.83 lakh vaccine doses given in 24 hours. Tests for Coronavirus stood at 77 crore, with 8,82,953 people tested in 24 hours.
