5 of Tangdhar family die of asphyxia in Bemina

SRINAGAR, Jan 5: Deficiency of oxygen (asphyxia) due to probable gas leakage led to the tragic death of five family members from north Kashmir’s Kupwara district at a rented room in Bemina area here during dead of night.
Locals said that among the five, two women a male and two minor children were found lying unconscious in their rented room at Boat Colony in Bemina area this morning.
Reports quoting locals said the team of concerned police post if evacuated motionless family to SKIMS hospital for treatment, however the doctors declared all five as brought dead.
Locals said the family was living in a rented room at Bemina Boat Colony for one week so as to get one of their family members treated at SKIMS hospital situated along Bemina Bypass.
A senior medico at Jhelum Valley Medical College said that the family died of probable ‘asphyxiation’, a condition of severely deficient supply of oxygen or excess of carbon dioxide in the body which causes breathlessness and often leads to death.
Hailing from Batpora village of Tangdar in frontier Kupwara district, the family according to medicos suffocated to death due to gas leakage in the room.
A police spokesman in a statement while confirming the death of five members of a single family from north Kashmir’s Kupwara said the dead bodies were airlifted to their native place in Kupwara after completing requisite formalities.
He identified the deceased as 45 years old Khursheed Ahmad, his wife and mother, Gulshan Jan 45 and Reshma Jan 65 and his two minor children Faizan 8 and Furkan 5.
“Police post Bemina received a call about the matter, a police team instantly rushed to the spot and removed all the five persons to JVC hospital for treatment where doctors declared them brought dead,” said the spokesman adding the family had hired a room on rent in Bemina last week as one of the family members was getting treatment at JVC.
He said police has taken cognizance of the matter and initiated probe to ascertain the cause of death of Kupwara family.
