NEW DELHI, Jan 6: In the wake of inclement weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir, National Board of Examinations (NBE) will hold a separate NEET-PG 2019 examination for students facing extreme difficulty in moving from Srinagar to their designated test centre due to complete blockage of air and road transport.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, the NBE said, “NBE had several centres arranged in Jammu & Kashmir. Due to inclement weather conditions in Jammu & Kashmir, some candidates from Srinagar valley who had opted for testing centre in Jammu or other cities were facing extreme difficulty in moving from Srinagar to their designated test centre due to complete blockage of air and road transport.”
Following reports from the Valley that several candidates were trapped in snowfall could not reach their designated centres, the National Board of Examination, which conducts the test, after discussions with the Ministry of Health and the Medical Council of India Board of Governors, has decided to make separate arrangements for candidates who couldn’t take the examination due to bad weather.
NBE said in a statement on Sunday, “NBE is committed to give an opportunity to such affected candidates to appear in NEET-PG 2019. NBE had taken up this matter with Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Medical Council of India and Government of Jammu and Kashmir and after discussions it has been decided, being a Force majeure situation, to hold a separate examination for these affected candidates. The date, time and venue shall be informed in due course.”
NBE, an autonomous organisation of Ministry of Health, conducts the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Post Graduate for admission to various medical postgraduate courses in the Country.
Some 1,48,000 candidates from 165 cities are taking Sunday’s entrance online entrance test. The exam will be conducted in a single session.
NBE had several centres arranged in Jammu & Kashmir but poor weather conditions prevented some candidates from Srinagar Valley who had opted for testing centre in Jammu or other cities from reaching their exam centres. All road and air connections to Kashmir have been cut off because of a recent bout of heavy snow.
