GMC employee dies in road accident

SRINAGAR, Jan 7: In a fresh hit and run case, an employee (sweeper) of Ganderbal Municipal Corporation (GMC) was crushed to death by a speeding vehicle at Beehama Chowk in central Ganderbal this morning.
Reports and witnesses said that a speeding vehicle this morning hit a sweeper at Beehama Chowk resulting in his on-spot death.
Witnesses said that the slain sweeper was performing his duty when the incident that created total chaos and confusion in the area took place.
The slain has been identified as Fayaz Ahmad a resident of Badergund Ganderbal who was working as a sweeper in Ganderbal Municipal Corporation.
A police official while confirming the incident said that a hit and run case has been registered in this regard and investigations taken up.
He also said that search for the accused has been started who will be behind the bars soon.
“It is a hit and run case, police has registered a formal case in this regard and investigations set into motion. We are hopeful that the accused will be behind bars soon,” said the official.
Meanwhile, locals have demanded that the accused driver be arrested soon and punished sternly for his criminal negligence.
The agitated people said that the accused driver after murdering an innocent person left the scene.
“We demand the accused be arrested soon and punished sternly for murdering an innocent. The accused after committing the crime left the poor man in a pool of blood that died minutes after the accident,” said a local.
