SRINAGAR, Mar 12: Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema Kashmir (MMUL) today asked people to stage peaceful protests on Friday in all mosques and called for complete shutdown on Saturday to protest summoning of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq by NIA to New Delhi.
Addressing a press conference at Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal here, MJULK executive member and Grand Mufti, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam said the leadership will never act on the dictates of NIA and will never travel to Delhi come what may.
“Kashmir is, was and will remain ours; I want to make it amply clear that we will never travel to New Delhi nor succumb to any pressure tactic. If NIA wants to arrest us they can come to Kashmir,” said Mufti Nasir.
He said an important meeting of MJULK was held at Mirwaiz Manzil in which many issues were discussed threadbare. He said religious leaders and scholars from across the length and breadth of Kashmir participated in the meeting and pledged to resist any move aimed at to weaken the leadership.
“Peaceful protests in mosques, shrines and Imam Bara’s should be staged post Friday prayers and complete shutdown should be observed across Kashmir on coming Saturday,” he said.
Mufti Nasir while condemning summoning of Mirwaiz by NIA to New Delhi for questioning termed the move as direct interference in religious affairs.
He also condemned crackdown on religious and political leadership and arrest of youth across Kashmir.
“Historic Jama Masjid which represents political and religious sentiments of the people of Kashmir has been locked down, people are barred from offering Friday payers which is unacceptable,” he added.
