'Result oriented dialogue with stake holders only way forward'

SRINAGAR, Mar 13: Former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti today said BJP wanted to ban Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) during her tenure as chief minister but she did not allow them to do so.
Mehbooba also said BJP wanted NIA raids on residences of senior separatist leaders but she did not permit it.
PDP president was addressing a workers convention in Bandipora. “BJP wanted to crack down on Jamaat-e-Islami and suppress the separatist leadership through NIA raids. However, our government did not allow the rightwing party to crack down on separatists," she said.
Mehbooba stated that the BJP wanted to carry out NIA raids on Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and other separatists as well but her government was against any such move.
She said that it was during the government of National Conference (NC)-Congress in 2019 when Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) and NIA spread their “web” in Kashmir.
The former chief minister said she forced BJP to have ceasefire in Kashmir for at least one month but militants did not respond to the ceasefire.
“Militants were not supportive when I forced BJP to have ceasefire for a month. I wanted to have a dialogue with separatist leaders and even a parliamentary committee visited Kashmir in 2016 but they shut their doors. Dineshwar Sharma was appointed as interlocutor to have dialogue with the separatist leadership but they did not support it,” she said.
Mehbooba reiterated that result oriented dialogue with all stakeholders is the only way to make peace in restive Jammu and Kashmir permanent.
She asked the party functionaries to work with greater coordination and strengthen the party on the ground.
She stated the PDP has always been a staunch advocate of political process for the resolution of Kashmir and has been asking the Government of India to hold meaningful dialogue with Hurriyat, Pakistan and with other stakeholders. “This muscular approach and political patch work will not take us anywhere as this has been tried for many decades and hasn’t yielded any positive outcome. It is unfortunate that some people still believe in the efficacy of these methods and are trying to repeat the old mistakes which will be meaningless and will prove counter-productive,” Mehbooba said.
She further stated that people are well aware of the policies of the PDP and how the party has always preferred its principles over power and didn't allow BJP to take any inroads on the constitutional position of the state.
She added that the state of Jammu and Kashmir as part of the republic secured its unique position and same cannot in any way be contested in any court of law. She said that Article 35-A is a matter of life and death for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and that no one has the authority to challenge the very identity of people of the state in any court across the world.
Those present who spoke on the occasion included general secretary Abdul Haq Khan, Nizamudin Bhat and party's nominated candidate for looking Sabha for North Kashmir’s Lok Sabha constituency Abdul Qayoom Wani.
