SRINAGAR, Jun 11: Despite rain, the national highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country was through today for both way traffic for light motor vehicles (LMVs) while heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) plied from Srinagar to Jammu only during night, a traffic police official said.
Two-way traffic continued on the Srinagar-Leh national highway with some restrictions while vehicles plied one-way only on historic 86-km-long Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region.
Traffic official said LMVs plied from both Jammu and Srinagar today. However, he said, Kashmir-bound vehicles had to leave Jakheni Udhampur between 8 AM to 2 PM. Similarly, Jammu-bound vehicles had to leave Zig Qazigund between 7.00 AM to 2.00 PM only. No vehicles were allowed after the deadline, he said.
However, HMVs were allowed only one-way from Srinagar to Jammu today. The vehicles had to leave from Zig Qazigund between 6.00 PM to 4.00 AM of Wednesday, he added. No HMVs were allowed from opposite direction.
Both way traffic is allowed on the national highway, the only road linking Ladakh region with Kashmir. From 5.00 AM to 7.00 AM, Kashmir-bound LMVs were allowed from Minimarg, he said, adding that later, HMVs from 7.00 AM to 10.00 AM. Later, Ladakh-bound traffic from Sonamarg in central Kashmir will be allowed from 10.00 AM to 3.00 PM. No vehicles were allowed after the deadline.
Only one-way traffic plied on historic Mughal road, he said, adding today, only Kashmir-bound vehicles were allowed to leave Behramgalla between 5 AM to 9 AM (LMVs) and from 9 AM to 3 PM HMVs on the road which is seen as alternative to Srinagar-Jammu highway.
