Two army men injured in Aarihal attack succumb to injuries

ANANTNAG, June 18: Two Jaish-e-Mohammad militants including the one whose vehicle was used in Pulwama suicide attack earlier this year and an army man were killed in an encounter in Bijbehara today. Two other security men were also injured in the incident.
Two of the six army men injured in an IED blast in Aarihal area of Pulwama on Monday also succumbed to injuries. In the last one week, at least 10 forces personnel including three officers were killed during the gunfights or militant attacks in southern region.
Today's gunfight broke out in Marhama village of Bijbehara early morning after a joint contingent of counter insurgent forces had launched cordon around the village. Officials said that as the forces advanced for searches they came in contact with the militants hiding in the village.
The militants opened fire on the search party triggering a gunfight. In the initial phase of gunfight, official sources said, one army man was killed and two others suffered injuries.
The forces later intensified the operation against the hiding militants and killed both of them. During the gunfight, a residential house was completely damaged.
Officials said that Sajad was involved in providing vehicle for Lethpora attack that had left at least 50 para-military men dead on February 14.
A local news agency quoting general officer commanding (GOC) of the army reported that Sajad had arranged vehicle for the attack while his another slain associate was his handler.
Meanwhile two army personal who had been injured in IED attack on the army Casper in Arihal village of Pulwama succumbed to injuries on Tuesday.
At least six army men had suffered injuries in the attack after the militants triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) Monday evening. The injured had been shifted to army hospital in Srinagar for advanced treatment.
Reports quoting officials said that two of the army men who had suffered critical injuries lost their battle for life in the hospital.
Pertinently in four militancy related incidents in the region in last one week at least ten counter insurgent forces personnel and four militants were killed.
Among the killed forces personnel, three were officers. On June 12, militants carried out a major attack on forces deployment in Anantnag killing five CRPF men including an ASI and an SHO. In the attack a militant identified as a Pakistani national was also killed.
On June 17, an army major was killed and three others injured in an encounter in Badooda village of Achabal. In the gunfight a militant was also killed.
