SRINAGAR, Oct 20: BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav today has today said it is alright to keep 200 to 300 people under detention for couple of months if it helps in restoring peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir.
He justified the detention of youth and mainstream politicians, including three former chief ministers, Dr Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti. Madhav alleged that some politicians, who remained under detention since August 5, are sending messages to youth to pickup arms and sacrifice their lives. “But, first ask them to come out and sacrifice their lives,” he added.
Madhav, who is incharge of J&K for BJP, was addressing a one-day BJP youth convention here.
“During the last 70 years, the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been deprived of development. They have been victims of violence and we have to turn-around things for the people. Now lakhs of families will join the path of development. The state will shun the path of violence and people will live in peace and prosperity… But to push the state towards the path of peace, if 200 to 300 people have to remain under detention for couple of months, they have to remain there,” the BJP leader said.
He said since the abrogation of article 370 and article 35A only few incident of violence have been reported in the valley. “Earlier, with or without any reason, the state was indulged in violence. But today the state is peacefully. So sometimes I wonder that if the state is peacefully by keeping 300 people under detention, it is better for the state,” he said.
Why there was violence in the state earlier and now things are at ease, he asked.
“The reason is not that someone is threatening them… the people of Jammu and Kashmir want peace. There are some people, who for their political gains, instigate violence, but now things have changed so they would be allowed to do so,” he said.
Madhav said the only reason Modi-led government abrogated special status of the state was to bring the people of J&K on the path of development.
In an indirect referring to Abdullahs and Muftis, he said, earlier things were done in the state to benefit only some families. But, he said today things are being done for the welfare of lakhs of families of the state. “Everything the centre is doing is being done for the welfare of the people of Kashmir,” he said.
Madhav said there will be only two paths for the state – peace and development. “Who so every comes in the way of these two paths will be dealt harshly,” he added.
“Politicians can do peaceful politics… the biggest hurdle in development is corruption. And under the leadership of Modi, corruption will be irradiated from J&K,” he said.
The BJP leader said that top leadership in the state was responsible for corruption. “On one hand, there was politics of terrorist and separatists and on the other hand there was politics of corruption,” he said.
He said panchayats have been given powers to stare the development of its area. “Earlier panches and sarpanches were elected by the people, but they had no powers. But now power has been given to them to develop their areas according to their needs,” he added.
