NEW DELHI, Feb 8 (Agencies): A verbal spat broke out between the AAP and BJP with the saffron party's state chief Manoj Tiwari calling sitting Delhi Chief Minister a "nakli bhakt" on Saturday as polling was underway in the Delhi Assembly elections.
Tiwari, BJP's candidate from said,"Woh (Arvind Kejriwal) pooja karne gaye the ya Hanuman Ji ko ashudh karne gaye the? Ek haath se joota utaarke, ussi haath se mala lekar...kya kar diya? Jab nakli bhakt aate hain na toh yahi hota hai. Maine pandit ji ko bataya, bahut baar Hanuman Ji ko dhoye hain (Had he gone to worship Lord Hanuman or inflict impurity? He picked up the garland with the same hand he took out his shoes...what has he done? When fake devotees come, this is what happens. I told pandit ji to wash Hanuman ji (the idol) many times)."
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh hit out at Tiwari saying there could not be a lower and disgusting statement than what he said,
Singh said, "Delhi ke CM ko itni achoot bhavna se dekhti hai BJP? Is se zyada gira hua aur ghatiya bayan ho nahi sakta. Abhi bhi aap us yug mein hain jahan daliton ko mandir mein pravesh nahi diya jata tha.Shri Ram bhi ab BJP ko nahi bacha sakte (Does BJP looks at the Delhi CM with such ideas of untouchability? There cannot be a lower and more disgusting statment than this. You are still in that age when dalits are not allowed to enter temples. Now even Lord Ram cannot save the BJP)."
Kejriwal took to Twitter to say a BJP leader had accused him of making a Hanuman temple "impure" by visiting it and the party has been mocking him ever since he recited the 'Hanuman Chalisa' on a TV channel.
"What kind of politics is this?" he asked. "God belongs to everyone. God bless everyone, even people from the BJP."
A day before Delhi polls, both Kejriwal and Tiwari on Friday paid obeisance at famous temples in the national capital.
Kejriwal, the national convener of the AAP, along with his wife Sunita offered prayers at the famous Hanuman Temple at Connaught Place.
Tiwari also visited the famous Chhatarpur and Kalkaji temples and offered prayers.
A war of words have ensued between Tiwari and Kejriwal in the run-up to the elections. Earlier in January, the Delhi unit President attacked Kejriwal for “mocking” his song 'Rinkiya Ke Papa'saying the Delhi CM was "insulting" Purvanchalis and their culture.
Kejriwal had taken a dig at Tiwari by referring to him as a singer who made the song 'Rinkiya Ke Papa', when asked for his views about Delhi BJP chief.
