NEW DELHI, Feb 15: Supreme Court judge Mrs Justice R Banumathi, who is due for retirement on July 17, fainted while dictating the order on the Centre's plea to allow separate hanging of the four convicts sentenced to death in the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case.
She hails from Tamil Nadu. She soon regained consciousness but she was moved to the chamber by two other judges, Justices Ashok Bhushan and A S Bopanna, on the Bench with the help of the court staff. She was taken on a wheel chair for medical treatment.
Before rising, Justice Bopanna said the order in the matter will be passed in chamber.
The Centre had moved the Court against an order of Delhi High Court holding that the convicts sentenced in a common order ought to be hanged together.
