Border posts, villages shelled in Poonch

JAMMU/ POONCH, Feb 24: Hours before the arrival of US President Donald Trump to India on Monday, ‘air space violation’ was reported from Pakistan side into the Indian side in Ranbir Singh Pura sector of Jammu district.
In the meanwhile, in Poonch district, Pakistan army yet again violated ceasefire violation by resorting to unprovoked fire targetting forward Indian border posts and villages on the Line of Conttrol in Shahpur and Degwar sectors. Indian side too retaliated in equal measure. However, there was no report of any casualty so far.
In Jammu district, Pakistan violated Indian air space in R S Pura sector this morning. Official sources said that at around 1145 hours, Pakistan aircraft was seen flying into the Indian territory by the villagers. “The villagers reported the matter to the police and by the time, police rushed to the spot, it returned,” sources added. However, panic gripped the border residents due to air space violation.
Later in the evening, in Poonch district, Pakistani army violated cease fire in Shahpur sector on the Line of Control.
Army sources said, “Pakistani army firstly opened fire with small weapons and later used mortar shells on Indian army posts in Shahpur and Degwar sectors. The soldiers manning the posts responded strongly with equal calibre.”
“Pakistan army violated cease fire and used mortars shelling and small arms in the Degwar sector at around 3.50 PM forcing us to retaliate,” they added.
SSP Poonch Ramesh Kumar Angral said, “This evening at around 3.50 PM Pak initiated unprovoked cease fire violation by shelling mortars and firing small arms along LoC in Shahpur sector of Poonch district” Indian army retaliated and gave a befitting reply to the enemy. The exchange of fire ended at around 6.50 PM.” A day before yesterday a house was damaged in the same sector due to Pakistani shelling.
