
SRINAGAR: Three Lashkar-e-Toiba militants have been killed in a gunfight at village Samno area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday, an official said.
A GNS report quoting a senior officer said that three LeT militants have been killed. However, the identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained while search operations are continuing in the area.
On Thursday, a joint team of Police and the army launched a cordon and search operation in the area.
As the joint team of forces zeroed in the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired on the joint team, which was retaliated, triggering off a gunfight.
The operation was suspended due to darkness in the area as a precautionary measure and resumed Friday morning with the first light.
Earlier reports said that firing resumed between militants and security forces after lull overnight in village Samno area of Damhal Hanjipora area in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday morning.
On Thursday, fierce gunfight erupted between militants and security forces in village Samno after forces received specific inputs about the presence of some militants in the area.
Till Thursday evening, no militant was reported to have been killed yet. Some unconfirmed reports from the encounter site suggested that at least five militants were trapped in the area.
