As Jammu Kashmir witnesses a spurt in militancy after the new government takes over, will peace return to Kashmir? Will the new government of a state reduced to a Union Territory be able to deliver or will the over-arching control of the BJP government in New Delhi continue to debilitate it?
There is a need to look at not only the internal factors but also the external factors, says Pravin Sawhney, strategic expert, author, and Roving Editor of the Force in an interview with Anuradha Bhasin for the Kashmir Times. There is no normalcy in Jammu & Kashmir and people are very angry and disillusioned.
However, there is also an external factor and threat from Pakistan and China that cannot be ignored. Together these three factors portend greater peril for the region and India. Mere piecemeal efforts to normalize relations with Pakistan, supported by China, a strong global power, will not be sufficient.
Peace requires consistent efforts for trust-building and cooperation. In this interview, he elaborates on this triangular threat and talks about a way forward.
