JAMMU: Trilok Singh Batra, former Principal of Institute of Music and Fine Arts, one of the frontline artists in fine arts from Jammu and Kashmir passed away on Friday morning after a prolonged illness.
According to family and friends, T S Batra passed away in his sleep on early Friday morning. The mortal remains were cremated on Saturday afternoon. A large number of people attended the last rites. Family members, friends and fraternity from the field of arts and literature joined the funeral procession.
A graduate of Baroda University, T S Batra worked as a teacher at the Institute of Music and Fine Arts in early 1970s and went to become its Principal. He nurtured many young artists in paintings in applied arts, modern arts and traditional art patterns. He also encouraged students and other artists in painting nature of Jammu and Kashmir, which he believed could be showcased at the national and international levels.
T S Batra was also instrumental in encouraging students and other artists to popularize local traditions of fine arts among the people. He shall be remembered for pioneering work in the field of painting and commercial art in Jammu and Kashmir.
His fellows, students and young artists paid rich tributes to him.
