Delay in renewal of driving licence in Kashmir

admin
Dear Editor,
I would like to draw the attention of the concerned authorities towards the abysmal services of the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kashmir through the columns of your newspaper.
As the country celebrates 78th Independence day, we Kashmiris are struggling to obtain basic facilities, guaranteed by the constitution, like renewal of driving licence even 5 years after the abrogation of Article 370. Is this the Naya J&K we were promised by the PM?
My Driving Licence was due for renewal in June this year and same was approved in July but since then the MoRTH Portal is unable to provide exact details of my Driving Licence. Very vaguely the status is reflected as, ‘Dispatched by post’ since the last two months without providing any tracking details. How long does it take to deliver a document by post in this country?
I was told by one of the staff member at RTO Kashmir that citizens have to wait upto six months for their licence to be delivered.
The RTO Kashmir is completely clueless about the matter as they have outsourced the printing of driving licence to a certain vendor whose contact details are not known.
For the last ten days, I have been writing to RTO Kashmir, Transport Commissioner Kashmir, Administrative Secretary J&K Transport Department, LG’s Greviance cell and to Under Secretary MoRTH but to no avail.
I would like to highlight this grievance through this forum so that the authorities can respond and resolve this matter at the earliest.
Sincerely,
Arshad Lateef
