Pakistan-India Peace Group Calls for Immediate Ceasefire, Dialogue

PIPFPD expresses solidarity with the Iranian people, describes Khamenei killing as grave violation of international law

KT NEWS SERVICE

NEW DELHI: Pakistan India Peoples’ Forum for Peace and Democracy (PIPFPD), a Pakistan-India peace group, condemned the US-Israeli attack on Iran, warning it has pushed the region and the world toward the brink of global war.

The forum also wrote formally to the Iranian ambassador in New Delhi, conveying condolences over the assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and expressing solidarity with the Iranian people, while condemning the killing as a grave violation of international law and sovereign norms.

It called for an immediate ceasefire and dialogue, cautioning that further escalation would carry catastrophic consequences well beyond West Asia.

To

His Excellency the Ambassador

Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran

New Delhi

Your Excellency,

We write to you as members of the Pakistan-India People’s Forum for Peace and Democracy (PIPFPD), a people-to-people initiative of citizens from India and Pakistan committed since 1994 to the values of peace, democracy, sovereignty of nations and justice among peoples.

We wish to convey our deep concern and condolences to the people of Iran at this moment of grave turmoil and loss following the assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the continuing violence unleashed against Iran. The targeted killing of the leader of a sovereign nation through external military action represents a dangerous escalation in global politics and a grave violation of international law and norms governing relations among nations.

We strongly condemn the use of such methods by powerful states and their allies, including the role of Israel and the United States in acts that undermine the sovereignty and stability of the region. The normalization of assassination, regime destabilisation and military aggression threatens not only the people of Iran but also the fragile foundations of international peace and security. In particular, we recognise this escalation as part of a wider pattern of Zionist aggression in West Asia, backed politically and militarily by the United States and other Western powers, which has repeatedly sought to destabilise sovereign nations and suppress independent political trajectories in the region.

The present situation cannot be viewed in isolation from the broader militarisation of West Asia and the ongoing tragedy unfolding in Palestine. The continued occupation of Palestinian lands, the devastating wars waged against the Palestinian people, and the systematic expansion of militarised policies across the region have created a volatile and dangerous geopolitical environment. The assassination of political leaders and the expansion of military confrontations risk deepening an already grave crisis that threatens millions across the region.

Our solidarity at this moment is first and foremost with the people of Iran, who are bearing the human consequences of this escalation. Reports of civilian casualties, including among children, deepen our anguish and reinforce our conviction that the cycle of militarisation and confrontation must be urgently halted.

As a forum born out of the shared histories of conflict and peace struggles in South Asia, we believe firmly that the sovereignty of nations must be respected and that disputes among states cannot be resolved through violence, assassinations or wars carried out under the shadow of geopolitical dominance. The Global South has repeatedly suffered the consequences of such interventions.

We therefore call upon the international community, peoples’ movements and democratic forces across the world to act decisively to prevent further escalation in the region, to uphold international law, and to ensure that West Asia is not pushed further into a spiral of violence.

Please accept, Your Excellency, the expression of our solidarity with the people of Iran at this difficult time. We hope that the voices of peace, justice and restraint will prevail over those of war and destruction.

Respectfully,

On behalf of the delegation of civil society organisations and members of

Pakistan-India People’s Forum for Peace and Democracy (PIPFPD)

New Delhi
